An elderly water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect.

A son and his father were walking in the mountains. Suddenly, the son fell, hurt himself, and screamed, "AAAhhhhhhhhh!" To his surprise, he heard a voice repeating, "AAAhhhhhhhhh!" Curious, he yelled, "Who are you?" He received the answer, "Who are you?"

The man approached and said, "There are miles of beach and thousands of starfish. You can't possibly make a difference."

The boy bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it into the surf, and said, "It made a difference to that one."

For two years, the bearer delivered only one and a half pots of water to his master’s house. The cracked pot was ashamed of its imperfection.

Angered at the response, he screamed, "Coward!" He received the answer, "Coward!" He looked to his father and asked, "What's going on?"

A man was walking along a beach after a storm and saw thousands of starfish washed up on the shore, dying in the sun. He noticed a young boy picking them up one by one and throwing them back into the ocean.
